Fifth Harmony speaks out in support of the transgender community

Whoever said "never meet your heroes," has never seen Fifth Harmony interact with their fans.

Late last month, a transgender woman named Camila Jo attended the band's San Francisco meet-and-greet, where she received resounding support from her idol, and namesake, Camila Cabello. Camila Jo had met the band once before, and that meeting had served as the impetus for her transition. This time around, about a year and a half later, she got to meet Camila, Normani, Lauren, Dinah Jane, and Ally as her true self.

The California girl gushed about the experience on her Instagram. "Finally telling [Camila Cabello] how much she's inspired me and has given me strength to transition and be transgender was so affirming! I can now continue on my journey knowing I'm beautiful & capable of anything…"

On that same day, Cabello took to Instagram to further build up her super fan, proclaiming, "There's a light in someone's eyes when they become who they want to be. Today you lit up the whole room. I love you darlin."

Cabello's unapologetic support of Camila Jo and the transgender community is something she shares with her four bandmates. Yesterday, MTV released a video in which the girls proclaim their love for their transgender fans.

The girls have always worked to make their fandom an inclusive space. "The number one thing that we try to promote is to be who you are and to love who you are, no matter what that means," says band member Lauren Jauregui.

Other allies in the public eye should take note. This is how you #AccelerateAcceptance.
