Actor and LGBT advocate Channing Tatum took the stage this Saturday night at the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles to present the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to out director, writer and producer Roland Emmerich. The Stephen F. Kolzak Award is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality. Tatum starred alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal in Emmerich's recent film White House Down, which made over 200 million dollars. Emmerich's films have earned more than one billion dollars worldwide. Previous Stephen F. Kolzak honorees include Laverne Cox, Wanda Sykes, Rufus Wainwright, Melissa Etheridge, Bill Condon, Todd Haynes, Alan Ball, Ellen DeGeneres, and Sir Ian McKellen.

"In addition to being an out, proud, fearless storyteller, Roland's wildly positive spirit has willed him to give back to others," Tatum said of Emmerich. "Roland is helping to create a better world around us, and we need more people like him."
Emmerich has been one of the most sought after directors in Hollywood for nearly two decades, helming global box office hits like Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and The Patriot. He recently finished filming on his next project, Stonewall, which follows a "young's man coming of age during the days leading up to the Stonewall Riots" and is slated for release later this year.
