In a new video released today, Irish LGBT organization BeLonG To urges the Yes vote in the upcoming marriage equality referendum. BeLonG To is calling for all of Ireland to talk to their family and friends about why marriage equality is so important and to work for the Yes vote. In the campaign video, there are many families featured, urging their parents, grandparents, and all other friends and family to join them in the vote, encouraging them to support marriage equality, and letting all LGBT people know they’ve #GotYourBack.

Last week, GLAAD’s President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis lent her support to the Ireland campaign for marriage equality, urging the yes vote on May 22. Ellis tells Ireland “you have the opportunity to be a global leader in support of marriage for all. A yes vote on May 22 will inspire other countries, like the United States, to follow suit.”

Videos like these exemplify the importance of allies supporting LGBT people, as GLAAD works to highlight through the #GotYourBack campaign. Along with the support of Ireland working toward marriage equality, we can all be allies to the LGBT community be speaking out and taking the pledge for acceptance. By voting, talking about the issues, or simply opening the discussion up to friends and family, you can help shape the positive future for the LGBT community. Join celebrities like Kerry Washington and Samira Wiley and show you are an ally to the LGBT community – sign the #GotYourBack pledge here.
