The GLAAD Wrap: 'Dear Tegan and Sara' documentary, Ian McKellen's 'Mr. Holmes,' Adam Lambert's "Ghost Town," and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Emma Stone and Steve Carell are preparing to star in Fox Searchlight's Battle of the Sexes, which will begin production this fall. Battle of Sexes chronicles one of the most-watched television events in history: the tennis match between star player Billie Jean King (Stone) and retired player Bobby Riggs (Carell), following Riggs' taunting of women athletes. Battle of the Sexes will be ready for a 2016 release. 

2) Out actor Ian McKellen offers a new take on Sherlock Holmes with his new movie, Mr. Holmes, where McKellen plays an elderly version of the famous detective. An adaptation of Mitch Cullin’s novel A Slight Trick of the Mind, Mr. Holmeslooks at the challenges the detective faces as he grows older. Check out the newly released trailer below:

3) Robin Williams' final film Boulevard has been picked up for US distribution by Starz Digital. Williams stars as a lonely married man whose life changes after he picks up a young male hustler. The film marks Williams' final performance following his death last August. Boulevard is set for a limited theatrical release in New York City and other markets on July 17.   

4) Just Before I Go, the directorial debut of Friends' actress Courtney Cox, comes to theaters with a limited release on Friday, April 24. The film follows Seann William Scott as Ted, a man who returns to his hometown to confront people from his past before he commits suicide. When he returns home, Ted ends up spending time with his alpha-male older brother, Lucky, and Lucky's son, Zeke, a closeted gay teen in a secret relationship with his classmate.  

5) Out performers Tegan and Sara are one of the acts profiled in Rolling Stone's documentary series "Mastering the Craft." The Canadian sisters speak about their evolution as performers and about the close relationships that they've cultivated with their fans. "As much as we have felt like we never shut up about being gay, we've represented hope for a lot of these people because we do get embraced," Tegan says. Check out Dear Tegan and Sara below:

 

6) Eric Schaeffer's feature Boy Meets Girl will be available on DVD starting from April 28. The film tells the coming-of-age story of two twenty-somethings living in Kentucky: Robby and his best friend from childhood Ricky, a trans woman. When Ricky meets beautiful, young debutante Francesca, her relationship with Robby becomes complicated as he is forced to face his true feelings for Ricky. 7) MTV's Faking It has shared a first look at the latter half of its second season. Faking It follows high school best friends Amy and Karma, who pretend to be together after being mistaken for a lesbian couple and receiving positive attention because of it at school. Complications ensue when Amy realizes she has real feelings for Karma. Faking It has also been renewed for a third season, in advance of its summer premiere on August 31 on MTV.

8) In more cancellation/renewal news: TV Land's inclusive freshman comedy Younger has been renewed for a second season. Catch up on episodes of Younger online, or tune-in on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on TV Land. After two seasons on USA, half-hour comedy Sirens has been cancelled. The inclusive show, which follows a group of EMTs in Chicago, was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award in Outstanding Comedy Series.

9) Former Top Chef contestant and out chef Kristen Kish will be co-hosting36 Hours, a new show for the Travel Channel, along with soccer star Kyle Marino. In 36 Hours, Kish and Marino will arrive in a new city and have only a day and a half to explore the best spots and sights it has to offer. The Travel Channel has ordered six hour-long episodes and posted a first look video, below:

10) Out pop singer Adam Lambert has released a new song, "Ghost Town," off of his new, much-anticipated third album The Original High. The Original High will be released on June 16, and is currently available for pre-order on iTunes. Check out the latest Lambert track:

11) A Young Man's Future is seeking funding through Indiegogo to complete its production. The film tells the story of two gay college students in love who both have bright futures ahead of them, until one of them develops schizophrenia.
