Cary Fukunaga, the Emmy-winning director of HBO hit True Detective's first season, and Brokeback Mountain Oscar-winning writers Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry are teaming up to create a film about the real life story of father and son Joe and Jadin Bell. Fifteen-year-old gay Oregon teen Jadin Bell died by suicide in January 2013 and his father Joe decided to honor his son's memory by beginning "Joe's Walk For Change," a cross country walk to educate anyone willing to listen about the effects of bullying. Joe was sadly hit by a truck and killed during his walk through Colorado in October 2013.
Fukunaga is set to develop, produce and direct the as-yet untitled film with Ossana and McMurtry penning the screenplay. The film will be released by A24 and will be the company's first internally developed and produced film.
