On May 17, thousands of advocates and LGBT allies form around the world celebrating theInternational Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia in an attempt to draw the attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBT people internationally. As part of GLAAD's Global Voices program, which works to accelerate LGBT acceptance across the globe, GLAAD is participating in and celebrating IDAHOT together with thousands of diverse groups and individuals. Beginning on May 1, we continue to give you 17 reasons, one every day, why May 17 matters. We invite you to create and share your own, via the hashtag #May17Because and amplify the voice for LGBT equality.
Rule Number 4: Love does not fit into boxes.
LGBT discrimination can also occur in film and media through inaccurate representation of LGBT couples and families. Often film and television will box or stereotype the LGBT community. This is why GLAAD works hard to make sure that the quantity, quality, and diversity of LGBT people in film is accurate. GLAAD's 2015 Studio Responsibility Index is just one resource that helps LGBT people and allies become educated about the representation of LGBT people in film. Stand for accurate representation of LGBT people in film and other media. Join GLAAD's #GotYourBack campaign.
