Monica Trasandes participated in an interview at CNN en Español's Café CNN's Atlanta home as part of GLAAD's Southern Stories Summer Tour. She presented the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Television Journalism Segment to host Carlos Montero for a segment about a transgender Colombian woman named Eliana Rubashkyn that aired last year. The reporter for the segment Diego Laje spoke to Montero and Trasandes from his current post in Buenos Aires.
The three had a wide ranging discussion about the state of rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the world, the United States, and the region including Rushbakyn's native Colombia. Trasandes talked about the importance of family acceptance, the need to prevent bullying and the fact that LGBT people can still be fired for being who they are in more than 29 states. Café CNN is a morning program that is seen not just in the United States but in the Caribbean and Latin America.
