With anticipation building for the Supreme Court's decision on marriage equality, Esurance debuted an LGBT-inclusive ad that supports #EqualDreams, no matter who you love. The video, which was filmed at a real wedding in Chicago, features children and their heartwarming wedding visions in order to show that all dreams are equal.
"Esurance recognizes all marriages. Plain and simple," said Nancy Abraham, Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications. "This is an important moment in history. Through #EqualDreams, we wanted to stand with our LGBT friends and family, employees and customers and let them know we have them covered."
The wedding dreams shared at the beginning of the video range from a lava-filled volcano to a kiss with the bride that is "exciting, yet disgusting." Another child hopes for a guest list that includes her family, her friends, and all of their doggies.
But not all kids are able to dream of a wedding when images of marriage are so often restricted to straight couples. One young woman reflects, "When I was younger, having a wedding wasn't really a part of my future because I knew that I was different, and I didn't see anyone around me who was like me, who, you know, were two women living together as a married couple."
The kids respond to this with the sentiment that everyone's dreams should be able to come true so everyone can be happy.
Esurance has been a longtime support of the LGBT community. In 2011, they made history as one of the first car insurance companies to extend its married rate to same-sex couples. Today, the company remains commited to honoring diversity, and extends the married rate to LGBT couples who cannot marry or are in domestic partnerships or civil unions.
With this video, Esurance continues to recognize all marriages. Towards the end of the video, one kid simply explains, "Everyone should be allowed to get married because if you love them and they love you back and you want to get married with them, I think you should get married with them."
