2) Magnolia Pictures this week released the trailer for horror romance film, Jack and Diane. The film follows two teenage girls, Jack (Riley Keough) and Diane (Juno Temple), who meet in New York City and spend a night together falling in love. Diane’s charming naivety gets through to Jack’s closed heart. But when she discovers that Diane is moving away, she begins to distance herself. Diane’s emotions cause unexplainable violent changes in her body and the two girls struggle to turn first love into forever love. The film hits video on demand services September 28 and theaters on November 2. Watch the trailer below.

NewFest, New York’s premier LGBT film festival, returns for its 24th year over this weekend and the following week, July 27-31. This year NewFest has partnered with famed L.A. LGBT film festival Outfest with the intent to eventually merge to form one national arts organization. Outfest, which just wrapped their own 30th annual event, was be responsible for programming this year’s NewFest which will feature a collection of narratives, documentaries, shorts and panels. 4) Kellan Lutz and Camilla Belle have been cast in a new indie drama, Love Is All You Need, as a bullied straight couple trying to remain under the radar in a world where being gay is the norm. Lutz will play an aspiring sports journalist while Belle’s character is the star quarterback of the football team. The feature film is based on a 2011 short of the same name. 5) Ryan Murphy responded to One Million Moms’ planned boycott of his new NBC sitcom The New Normal by saying they might enjoy watching the show and see themselves reflected in Ellen Barkin’s character. “Every person and group has a right to protest something. I find it to be interesting that they would take a position before they’ve seen it,” said Murphy. “I think if they watch the show, I actually think they would love it. For the first time they will be represented! Ellen Barkin’s character is a member of the Million Moms! She will protest people and events and I think it will be great fodder for Brian and David’s characters to talk about.” Watch Barkin discuss the character below.
6) The newest video from the Pet Shop Boys for their single, ‘Winner’, features “Dirty Diana,” a transgender member of the British roller derby league the London Rollergirls. According to the league’s website, they strive “for a diverse league truly representative of the Greater London community,” welcoming everyone to participate. The Pet Shop Boys’ full album drops in the US on September 18; you can watch the video for the single below.

Zachary Sergi recently published his choose your own adventure novel, Heroes Rise: The Prodigy. The half-novel/half-game takes place in the 22nd century in a world where one in three people are born with Powers. Powered individuals are the new form of celebrity, but to get that recognition one must prove to Millenia City that they are a true hero. The game lets you choose your gender and sexual orientation and your romance and interactions follow from the decision. Heroes Rise: The Prodigy is available for Apple iPhone/iPad, Amazon Kindle, Google Android and Windows, OS X, and Linux via the Chrome Web Store.
8) Scrooge & Marley is a modern-day variation on classic holiday story, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The filmmakers are keeping the plot largely under wraps, but have said Scrooge is a gay man in this retelling and the flashbacks will take the audience through his life beginning with his childhood in the 1970s. Scrooge is played by David Pevsner, Marley by Tim Kazurinsky, and they are joined by Rusty Schwimmer, Bruce Vilanch, Megan Cavanagh, Richard Ganoung, Ronnie Kroell, David Moretti, JoJo Baby, Becca Kaufman, plus a host of Chicago actors.
