Today is International Women's Day! Throughout the day and around the world, communities will be honoring the achievements of women. There will undoubtedly be much media coverage about incredible women in all walks of life. It is important that the contributions of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women not be forgotten.  LGBT women are a part of every arena, from MMA fighter Fallon Fox to model and fashion designer Isis King to actress Jane Lynch and MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

LGBT women continue to gain visibility as advocates across the globe strive for equality. The South Africa-based Forum for the Empowerment of Women (FEW), an organization of and for black lesbian women, is working to empower the local community and offers services to anti-LGBT violence victims and their families. The Latin American and Caribbean Network of Transgender People (REDLACTRANS), along with the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, is highlighting a trend of discrimination, abuse and violence against transgender women in Latin America, and showing how it derails HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.

These organizations and the individual women creating change internationally must not be overlooked. GLAAD celebrates all women and urges the media to do the same.
