Wonder what we’re up to at GLAAD?

Be sure to check out GLAAD Blog each week for updates about our latest work to build support for LGBT equality through news, entertainment and online media.

Recording artist Carly Rae Jepsen announced that she will withdraw as headliner of the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, following a campaign launched by GLAAD and Eagle Scout Derek Nance, whose Change.org petition calling on the 'Call Me Maybe' star to denounce the Boy Scouts' ban on gay scouts and scout leaders has amassed over 62,000 signatures. GLAAD successfully placed commentary from Rev. Mieke Vandersall in The Huffington Post. Rev. Vandersall highlights the struggles that continue to be faced by LGBT Presbyterians, even after a policy change removing barriers to ordination. Read more.

GLAAD worked to bring reports of the murder of Mississippi gay mayoral candidate Marco McMillian to wider attention, and shined a light on the lack of state hate-crimes laws to protect LGBT victims of violence. Rev. Irene Monroe wrote a guest blog for GLAAD about McMillian. Read more.

GLAAD is sharing information and graphics that demonstrate the wide range of support for striking down the so-called "Defense of Marriage" Act (DOMA) and the anti-gay Proposition 8. Recent polling shows that 59% of Americans oppose DOMA,  as does former U.S. president Bill Clinton, Bishop Marc Andrus, the National Cathedral, and a wide variety of Jewish groups. Read more.
