Voting is closing soon for the 2012 Do Something Awards and several LGBT stars, allies and inclusive television series are nominated for their charitable works and roles in raising awareness.

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are up for Do Something Couple, with Ellen pulling double duty as she earned a nomination in the Comedian category for her role in raising global awareness of the AIDS crisis. Wanda Sykes is also up for Do Something Comedian for her work with GLAAD, The Trevor Project and the True Colors Fund.

Dancing with the Stars is nominated in the Reality TV Show category for including transgender contestant and GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak Award  recipient Chaz Bono in their thirteenth season, as well as Carson Kressley who accepted the Outstanding Reality Program award from GLAAD on behalf of the series at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards. Savage U, Dan Savage’s new MTV series dedicated to educating college students about sex and relationships, is also nominated for Do Something Reality TV Show.

Pop star Lady Gaga is nominated for Do Something Twitter for her part in raising awareness about anti-LGBT bullying following the death by suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer last September. Gaga paid tribute to Jamey during a concert in Las Vegas and has met with President Obama to discuss youth bullying and Jamey’s Law, which would make bullying a hate crime. Watch Jamey’s family – Mother Tracey, Father Tim and Sister Alyssa – speak about Jamey’s life, legacy and how much Gaga’s tribute meant to them at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards.

Adam Lambert is up for Do Something Music Artist for his work with various charities including The Trevor Project and the It Gets Better Project. Ricky Martin and Nicki Minaj are honored in the Style category for their collaboration with the MAC Viva Glam line of cosmetics which raises proceeds to support events that will build awareness of HIV/AIDS in Latin America. The Weinstein Company documentary Bully is nominated in the Film category.

Josh Hutcherson, ally and the youngest recipient of GLAAD’s Vanguard Award, is nominated in the Do Something Movie Star: Male category for his work with Straight But Not Narrow, a group that aims to positively influence the perception of LGBT youth among their straight peers. Hutcherson also starred in The Kids Are All Right, a GLAAD Media Award winning film about a lesbian couple and their children who welcome the kids’ biological father into their lives. Neil Patrick Harris is nominated for Do Something TV Star: Male for his work in the fight against cancer. GLAAD Media Award winning series Glee, Pretty Little Liars and Modern Family are all up for Do Something TV Show for their nuanced portrayals of LGBT characters and storylines.

Notice who is missing? Kirk Cameron, Victoria Jackson and Chuck Norris – three former stars who spend their time attacking the LGBT community.

Voting is open on VH1’s website now. The 2012 Do Something Awards will be hosted by the cast of Fox’s New Girl and will air on VH1 on Tuesday, August 21 at 9/8c.
