Marvel released a statement of congratulations to the creators of the most recent series of Young Avengers on receiving the award for Outstanding Comic Book at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The series came from creative team Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson, and Clayton Cowles, and featured several gay and bisexual characters.
Writer Kieron Gillen reacted to the award by saying "With Young Avengers, thanks to the work of Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung in its creation, we had an incredible opportunity to push these themes even more prominently. The response from the people who the book spoke to has been absolutely humbling. Receiving the award continues that particular theme. We're both lucky and grateful."
The book features longtime, gay couple Wiccan and Hulkling, who have been part of the Young Avengers team through just about every 
iteration, including previous GLAAD Media Award nominees Young Avengers Presents and Avengers: The Children's Crusade. The latest series written by Gillen also introduced several more bisexual characters, including Prodigy and Miss America.
The series has been collected into three trades, which can be purchased in both digital and paper editions.
Other nominees in the category included Life With Archie, Husbands, Marvel's The Fearless Defenders, and previous winner Batwoman.
Special guests at the Los Angeles show included: Rita Moreno who presented the Vanguard Award to Jennifer Lopez. Ellen Page who presented the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to Laverne Cox. Norman Lear received the Pioneer Award. Manny de Guerre, LGBT advocate from Russia, received the International Advocate for Change Award.
