In a historic day for Arkansas, the state's first same-sex couple received a marriage licesne this morning, following a circuit judge's ruling that Arkansas' ban on marriage equality was unconstitutional.
"The exclusion of a minority for no rational reason is a dangerous precedent," Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza said in the Friday ruling.
Kristin Seaton and Jennifer Rambo of Fort Smith were the first same-sex couple to receive a marriage license. According to the Associated Press, the couple was then immediately married on the courthouse steps.
If the ruling remains in place, Arkansas will be the 18th state (as well as the District of Columbia) that allows all loving couples to marry.
