Out artists Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally receive Country Music Association Awards nominations

On Wednesday, the Country Music Association Awards or CMA Awards nominees were announced on Good Morning America. Among the nominees are out artist Brandy Clark, out songwriter Shane McAnally and outspoken ally Kacey Musgraves.

Brandy Clark received a nod in the New Artist Of The Year category. While Clark has written songs with well-known country music artists for many years, including Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert, she only released her first album, 12 Stories, last year.

Clark is also nominated alongside Shane McAnally and Kacey Musgraves for Musgraves' hit song "Follow Your Arrow" in the Song Of The Year category. The three of them partnered to write the LGBT-affirming country song which made it to top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The video for the song is nominated for Video Of The Year, while Kacey Musgraves also received a nod in the Female Vocalist of the Year category. She performed "Follow Your Arrow" at the GLAAD Media Awards earlier this year.

 

The 48th annual CMA Awards will air live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on ABC on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.
