Out Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts spoke with Michael Sam, the first out player drafted into the NFL, for espnW's "In The Game" series about his decision to come out, his passion for the game and what is driving him to make his dreams come true. Sam was signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad yesterday.
Sam was visibly emotional when Roberts asked about his feelings during the days of the NFL draft and what was going through his head as he waited to be picked. "I was kind of second guessing myself, whether maybe football turned its back on me, and then I was like 'maybe I shouldn't have done what I did.' I had so many emotions going in my head and then I felt a touch over my shoulder and it was Vito. I was like 'I don't care what happens.' I know I did the right thing in my heart and whatever happens, happens and I'm just going to move forward."
When asked what he wants people to know about him, Sam responded "that Michael Sam is ready to take the NFL on."
