Northwest Press has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to produce a new anti-bullying comics anthology called RISE: Comics Against Bullying just in time for Spirit Day on October 16. The series will be distributed free to kids and schools by the nonprofit organization Stand for the Silent, and GLAAD and PRISM Comics will also receive copies.

Husbands' Brad Bell's story "Barbie and the Boy" looks at the pressure one young boy faces when he's told the things he loves aren't appropriate for boys, while other stories also touch on the feelings of alienation and depression children experience from bullying, and how some grow to overcome them. Other notable contributers include Marc Guggenheim (Arrow), Howard Chaykin (Black Kiss) and more.
Spirit Day, which will take place on October 16, inspires millions to wear purple or "go purple" online in a united stand against bullying and to show their support for LGBT youth. Each year, Spirit Day draws the participation of celebrities, corporations, media outlets, sports leagues, schools, faith institutions, national landmarks, and individuals. Spirit Day is made possible by the generous support of its national partners PepsiCo and Wells Fargo, as well as official partner Comcast-NBCUniversal, and supporting partner American Eagle Outfitters.
