Great news from South America today!

The Chilean Senate passed a measure in favor of making civil unions for same sex couples available. The measure has been passed into the Chilean House of Deputies where it will be voted on and then passed to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.

In Peru, Luisa Revilla Urcia has been elected to the local council of La Esperanza in the province of Trujillo located in the northwestern portion of Peru, making her the first out transgender person to be elected into office. LGBT advocates in South America have been working hard for years to garner more support for LGBT equality. We congratulate them and hope to see many more such victories.
