Leading Spanish-language network Univision had great Spirit Day participation this year. The nationally televised evening news program Noticiero Univision did two great segments on bullying, both the day before and on Spirit Day. Co-anchor Maria Elena Salinas did a segment that included a video that shared the impact of bullying on LGBT people and their messages of resilience and strength. Correspondente Arantxa Lozaiga presented a segment about the impact of bullying and the importance of acceptance.
On UniMás "El Palenque con Enrique Santos" host Enrique Santos presented long segment on bullying and his entire audience was dressed in purple for Spirit Day.
Santos covered the subject on his morning radio show and tweeted messages of support on social media.
Also on UniMas, the morning show Lanzate hosted by Fernanda Kelly and Luis Sandoval featured Mariachi Arcoiris, an LGBT mariachi group; a story about a young gay man's coming out with his mom's support; a segment on hate crimes and continued to educate their audience on the significance of Spirit Day throughout the show.
In Los Angeles, local station KMEX-34 held a phone bank with the participation of GLAAD, Lambda Legal, Latino Equality Alliance, Translatina Coalition and Bienestar to provide resources on family acceptance and other needs. Cecilia Brogan shared interviewed several of the participants who shared their experiences to inform the audience on the impact of anti-LGBT bullying and discrimination and the resources available to the community.
Several of the hosts of the nationally aired morning show Despierta América also wore purple and shared a message abbout what Spirit Day meant to them.
