Award-winning filmmakers Amy Geller and Allie Humenuk have generated excited support for their feature-length documentary, "The Guys Next Door," but need your help in further closing the gap.
While legal advances for LGBT Americans have been on the rise, full cultural acceptance has yet to be achieved as a day-to-day reality. By telling the story of Erik and Sandro, a married gay couple with two daughters birthed by their friend and surrogate, an LGBT family's experiences will help personalize the experiences of many families like theirs for a diverse audience. "The Guys Next Door" details the celebrations and complex challenges of raising daughters as a gay couple in today's world, navigating the homophobia they've encountered in their lives.
The film and its goal are particularly pertinent, as the Supreme Court prepares for a groundbreaking decision to come later this year on whether all 50 states must allow marriage equality.
In order to share the film with numerous broadcasters and film festivals by their requested deadline, Amy and Allie are working to raise $60,000 in order to finishing editing the film. In a matter of days, the accomplished filmmakers have raised about 60% of their goal using Kickstarter,, but still have more than $20,000 to go in order to be able to share Erik and Sandro's family's story.
Between the two of them, Amy and Allie's credits include films and productions for PBS, the BBC, MTV, National Geographic, and more. This current project has already garnered acclaim, including from the iconic country band, the Dixie Chicks.
