Today, 'Transparent' creator Jill Soloway was interviewed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, talking about the show and the major impact it has had in the media. As the show features a trans character in the midst of her transition, Soloway discusses the ways in which the show can be an educational experience for the audience. In the interview, she explains what exactly it means to be trans, the importance of pronouns, and how the show was inspired by her own parent. Soloway says that the show serves as "an example for all of us about leading authentic lives." This year, 'Transparent' received the Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy.

Additionally, on ellentv.com, GLAAD was mentioned as a resource for people to learn more about the trans community. Ellen's website quotes: "As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love." There was also a link to GLAAD's Transgender 101 page, which is part of our Transgender Media and Education program.

Last month at the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, Transparent received the award for Outstanding Comedy Series. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.
