The Bi Writers Association (BWA) will be holding the third annual Bisexual Book Awards Ceremony on Saturday, May 30 in New York City.
The Bisexual Book Awards will honor books with exceptional bisexual representation in 10 categories: Fiction, Non-fiction, Romance, Erotic Fiction/Erotica, Speculative Fiction [Scifi/Fantasy/Horror/Etc], Memoir/Biography, Teen/Young Adult Fiction, Mystery, Poetry, Anthology. The awards also feature two special categories to honor the Bisexual Book Publisher of the Year and Bi Writer of the Year.
The Bisexual Book Awards will be hosted by BWA Director Sheela Lambert, and will feature entertainment from musician Rorie Kelly and photographer Gymnos Alitheia, who will give a special presentation of his art photography project "Full Disclosure."
Authors Geer Austin, Courtney Moreno, Herukhuti, Nora Olsen, Vivek Shraya, Laura Foley, Shari Slade, A.R. Fiano, and Ann Herendeen will also be in attendance, and will be available for book signings before and after the awards.
The Bisexual Book Awards will take place at the Westbeth Community Room in Manhattan's West Village neighborhood from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with book signings beginning 30 minutes before the ceremony. After the awards, book signings will continue for a half hour, then an after-party will be held from 10:30 pm to 12:30 am at the Malarparte Restaurant.
BWA Director Sheela Lambert said in a statement, “the Bisexual Book Awards is the one place where authors who write bisexual characters, bisexual storylines or bisexual themes can be honored in such a variety of categories. We also reward publishers who do their utmost to publish quality books with bisexual content. We are all about encouraging writers to write more bi-themed books, with fresh characters, scenarios and ideas, and encouraging publishers to publish them." She added, “It’s our goal to keep expanding the canon of bisexual literature".
The BWA has made exceptional progress promoting representation in literature of the bi community - with 80 bisexual-inclusive books being published in 2014, where there were only 10 when the BWA started in 2006, proving to be a force for cultural acceptance and equality in media.
Tickets to the Bisexual Book Awards will be available for $15 at the door.
