Starting July 1st 2015, Nevada state employees and their covered family members will have health coverage for transgender-related procedures and other medical expenses including mental health, hormone replacement therapy, and sex reassignment surgery. This change came last November as a result of Nevada's Public Employee Benefits Program board voting to remove language from their health insurance plans that specifically excluded therapy for gender dysphoria.
While the state has not at this time issued any requirements to private health insurance providers regarding transgender-related care as nine other states (including California, Oregon, Vermont, and New York) have, this change does mark a step in the right direction.
