Nominees announced for Writers Guild Awards; 'Transparent' and 'Orange is the New Black' each score three nods

The nominees for the Writers Guild Awards in TV, new media and radio were announced this week and include several LGBT-inclusive series. Additional nominees for theatrical, documentary, and videogame writing categories will roll out through January. The Writers Guild Awards will be held in Los Angeles on February 14.

Amazon Prime's new original comedy Transparent, which follows a Los Angeles family as Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) announces her transition to her kids and ex-wife, scored three nominations total including New Series and Comedy Series. The Netflix original series Orange is the New Black about the diverse cast of inmates at a women's prison also picked up three nominations. Both series are part of GLAAD's new Transforming Images interactive timeline highlighting four decades of trans-inclusive entertainment.

ABC's Modern Family is nominated twice in the Episodic Comedy category. LGBT-inclusive dramas Game of Thrones (HBO) and The Good Wife (CBS) each scored nominations in Drama Series and Episodic Drama. The Normal Heart picked up a nomination in Long Form Adapted, the HBO TV film was based on Larry Kramer's play of the same name about the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York City and the young activists working to spur the medical and political establishment into action. NBC's Hollywood Game Night, hosted by out actress Jane Lynch, scored a nomination in Quiz and Audience Participation and LGBT-inclusive soaps Days of Our Lives and General Hospital are nominated in Daytime Drama.

The 67th Annual Writers Guild Awards will take place in Los Angeles on February 14.
